BOTSWANA AIDS IMPACT SURVEY I
The Botswana AIDS Impact Survey (BAIS 1) was conducted under the auspices of the Central Statistics Office’s Program of Household Surveys. The BAIS was a national sample survey whose fieldwork was conducted between 18th January and 5th March 2001. The study was designed to provide information on topics explicitly related to HIV/AIDS. In this household survey, a randomly selected group of women and men aged 10 – 64 years were interviewed.
The questions were designed to capture information regarding background characteristics, parental survivorship, care and support, marriage and cohabiting partnerships, sexual history and behavior, sexually transmitted diseases, exposure to HIV/AIDS interventions and attitudes towards people with HIV/AIDS. This report contains three major sections. That is, background information (introduction and survey objectives); survey methodology and sample design; and social indicators such as availability of safe water and sanitation, knowledge of HIV/AIDS, etc.
